A refreshing, fast, witty, perky, cheeky, and raw post-punk debut by the band from Cardiff, packed with energy, humour, filth and feisty fun, covering subjects from body shaming to partying, dodgy men, and a joyous celebration of good nights out and friendship. Girl Band Starter Pack as much as opener or as summary of their unsinkable energy and ethos is a perfect place to get what they’re about (“We get loose, we get lairy, we get wild, we get crazy”), Gok Wan meanwhile satirically captures body fat obsessiveness (“Vertical stripes and skipping meals / Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”), and other standouts include Tit School and Pockets, but for all the drunken fun, flirtation and caustic wit, this is an album that above all cherishes and celebrates the unbreakable bonds of friendship between the girls in the band, inspired by the film Thelma and Louise as the title of their closing number: “'Cause you're the love of my life/ Don't want a husband, don't need a wife/ What we've been through and what we've seen/ No one else can come in between.” A laugh-out-loud catchy debut by band best experienced at their gigs. Go and see them this year if you can. Out on Brace Yourself Records.
