A delicate, experimental, understated soulful chamber pop debut by the pure-voiced Stockholm-born singer-songwriter (aka Kendra Egerbladh) in 25-minute, eight-track release of lo-fi, lyrically semi-improvised numbers about heartbreak and self-renewal in a world of gorgeous musical sensations. Her sound is pleasingly minimal, but decorated with piano, acoustic guitar, drums, strings, brass, and flourishes of dulcimer and flute, from the deliciously still opener Sink, the particularly beautiful chorus on the title track criss-crossing with violin and viola, the dulcimer inflected Clay (though the vocal effect isn’t really required), the syncopated piano of Beck n Call, the lovely acoustic guitar and sighing vocal style of Minnie, the muted rhythmic strings and lazy, dreamy easy delivery of Amiss to the rippling piano arpeggios, strings, and knocking, limping rhythm of Srs Ice which, with brass accompaniment, really builds beautifully in its a glorious sort of galumph: “Now I′m stuck up in a lonely high / Lonely shadows, lonely lights / Lonely ′til you came inside / Lonely thing that is my life.” Naturally flowing, oddly sensual, both sleepy and stimulating and very distinctive, all from a very promising and different talent. Out on Sub Pop Records.
