Resonant, poetic, moody, profound, the acclaimed American singer-songwriter returns with a song exploring feelings of a life that was lived and one that's meant to be, heralding his latest album, My Days of 58, out on 27 February 2026 via Drag City Records. This release follows 2022's YTI⅃AƎЯ and all his other LPs released under his own name as well as those previously as and band SMOG. In this new single, guitars strike up from dreamy to gritty, as bluesy sax wails and the morphing drum arrangement moves from brooding and introspective to danceable to low-key anthemic with instantly striking opening lyric.

I saw that demon inside me
Trying to claim my body as its own
Invader, enslaver, little headstone
Tell me, has it grown?
The kids in the end will be fine
Playing on the island in my mind
And when the island's gone they will be finer
I've been living too long in my head
Not loving you enough in our bed
From now on, I start living my life
As if the next day I'll be dead
Next day I'll be dead
I don't wanna be the man that I am anymore
I want the man you see to be the man you adore
Cut out that little piece of me, throw it on the floor
And watch the man I'm supposed to be walk right through that door
And now my biggest fear is not the dying
My biggest fear is that I'll stop trying
To be the man I am supposed to be
We take life seriously, laugh in the face of death
Yeah we take life seriously, laugh in the face of death
We take life seriously, laugh in the face of death
Hee-hee
