A blistering new release of razor-sharp rage fuelled by social injustice by the punk and psychedelic rockers from Atlanta, Georgia, spearheaded by the charismatic vocalist KT, with thunderous drums and scalding guitars, and recorded at Sonic Ranch Studio in Texas with producer Ty Segall with a pacy, raw, rasping sound. It’s a potent balance of unabashed sonic assault, KC’s voice standing out above the tremendous fuzzy noise with a power and resonance reminiscent of Amyl & the Sniffers. This is an album that pulls no punches from the off, with Tired, taking aim at the cost of living and the depressing news cycle: “How many times I gotta tell ‘em that our pockets cryin’?... How many people you gon’ lie to and say you’re not lyin’? “And I’m tired of the darker news / And I’ve tried warning you / It feels right scaring you.” There’s an incendiary excitement about this band, a live-performance force, the quintet completed by drummer/vocalist Chris Salado, guitarists Mikey Durham and Hoff, and bassist Ausar Ward. Other highlights include Plastic, which sees Salado’s menacing, raspy voice also coming to the fore, the slower, grungier, and catchy New Case with a fabulous animated plasticine figures video by Cissi Efraimsson, punchy, short, sharp tracks with sharp changes of pace and such as Fried or Kin, the baying Spanish vocals of Un Momento, or the thunderous anger and racial frustrations of Forgotten Token. A powerful, visceral piece of relentless, fizzing punk energy and emotion, enough to get anyone’s heart racing with the thrill of this fabulous LP, and their first on Domino Records.
