A poignant, powerfully gentle folk-blue-Americana protest number by the veteran Calfornian singer-songwriter with an extended metaphor about the state of his country in this title track heralding his upcoming album out on 18 September via Steve’s new label Eastcote Recordings.
The album was inspired by a coast-to-coast drive Steve and his wife took in 2024 just before the last presidentail election. “We drove across the country from Miami to LA,” he says. “We thought we was gonna have an amazing time but we were mostly sad, so much homelessness and division.”
They were in a New Orleans club where a house band leader welcomed two Belgian musicians on stage by saying “welcome to the last season of America.” This became the theme for the rest of their road trip and led to him writing the album’s title track. A deeply personal, heartfelt reflection on the state of his home nation, The Last Season of America is a protest record in the truest sense.
In another previous single, Bad Things, he pulls no punches in talking about the current president. “We got a criminal running this place. He got lies written all over his face,” Steve sings, but he adds it’s not all hopelessness. “There’s bad things, but we still can change. If you believe in hope, we can rearrange. I still believe in the power of love.”

Whoa, have you come
To see the last show
It's the last season of
The America that we know
And there'll be no reruns
All the sponsors have gone home
They're shutting the whole thing down
All that's left is the theme song
Now there'll be no reruns
All the sponsors have gone home
They're shutting the whole thing down
All that's left is the theme song
We never thought
It'd all come to an end
And when did we stop
Caring, you and I, my friend
Now there'll be no reruns
All the sponsors have gone home
They're shutting the whole thing down
All that's left is the theme song
It's the last season of
America
And we'll never watch again
The show that we loved
And there'll be no reruns
All the sponsors have gone home
They're shutting the whole thing down
All that's left is the theme song
Whoa, have you come
To see the last show
