A mischievously rewritten self-title comes with this witty, infectiously catchy, devilishly energised new release by the raucously fun Swedish punk band from Stockholm, one which satirically lampoons the stupidity of day-to-day modern existence. Recorded at their own studio and released on their own label, Shrimp Enterprises, (shrimps remain their regular lyrical motif), there’s a particularly fresh, live band feel to this release. The lyrical jokes and the fabulous riffs come thick and fast, from Man Made of Meat, which parodies the modern art world inside the head of an anarchic artists getting away with fooling a chin-scratching audience, as well as the absurdity of modern media in general (“I don't wanna pay for anything / Clothes and food and drugs for free / If it was 1970 / I'd have a job at a factory”). Frontman Sebastian Murphy somehow manages a beer burp on the first instance of the word factory, but such is mischief the band, it is kept in. There’s also sorts of fun at play here, such as the ballad Medicine For Horses (““Kiss my wife, tell her I love her ... tell her she was the only thing that made me stop thinking about the plains, the great plains of North America”0; then there’s anthemic electro-rock of Waterboy, to the bizarre jazz-punk of Best In Show Pt.IV. The Bog Body is about an obsession with a preserved corpse in the peat, one who in the video comes to life to be Murphy’s band girlfriend. There’s a trip to the vets on Uno II, or a health scare on Pyramid of Health, which parodies modern health trends. It’s both sharp, serious, irreverent and silly, but always very entertaining with banging riffs and tunes. The twist, however, comes at the end, following all the pacy, pumping riffs, and shouting, the closing track, River King, is a droll, but tender love song accompanied by an old piano and bass clarinet. Fabulous fun. Out on Shrimptech Enterprises.
