Three-part interweaving vocal harmonies, three ironic, mini-sob stories, and a quirky, retro pop sound with shades of Brian Wilson come on the West Coast trio’s latest single, heralding their upcoming sophomore album, Playin’ Dumb, due out on 9 September. Tchotcheke are Anastasia Sanchez, Eva Chambers, and Emily Tooraen. The latter describes the background of this song: “We confined ourselves to creating the personas of three ungrateful and out-of-touch girls with complete stories in the span of four lines each.” The new album is produced by The Lemon Twigs brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, and is due out on 5 September. Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
Doe-eyed Dolly has the act down well
Mom and Dad see perfection where the apple fell
Give her everything, too
But nothing will do
Poor, poor girl
Give her more, poor girl
Crissy’s cryin’ ‘cause the colour’s wrong
Wanted two shades darker than a platinum blonde
Showed ‘em Brigitte Bardot
They gave her Monroe
Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
Suzie Slicker’s never ever been caught
Usin’ five sticky fingers with acrylics on top
Left her wallet at home
Her cover is blown
Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
Poor, poor girl
She’s such a poor, poor girl
