Stockholm’s Swedish-Ghanian twin duo Sammy and Johnny Boakye Bennett bring a superbly stylish blend of sharp hip-hop, punk, dark, seething industrial, electronica and dance music with just a dash of the Prodigy, Alabama 3 and 90s trip-hop. Joined by alongside collaborators Richard Zastenker and Johannes Klahr, they’ve cooked up a potent combination, with all of these elements coming together on the double-edged Fun, or especially the menacing House Fire, with has a Prodigy-like beat and bass line, strengthened by the twins’ interchanging delivery. Personal Disorder has clever samples and like Stray Dog is closer to a trip-hop balance. Tip of Your Tongue is a more stripped back, playful style of hip-hop with catchy, beepy electronica fills. Short and sharp, with just eight tight tracks and no baggy filler, Mr Man completes the album with tight beats, and this time fusing their vocals on the chorus in between rapping turns, and a whispering, conspiratorial delivery atmospheric, shadowy, cinematic quality with flutterings of brass. A condensed, top-quality and distinctively strong album. Out on Amuseio AB.
