Pure, sweet, sublime retro soul by the band from Bloomington, Indiana made of the core trio of vocalist Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer on drums/vocals, and guitarist Blake Rhein, here blooming again with their fifth LP in a decade in a release inspired by the idea of expressing personal vulnerability. Evocative of hot summers in the 1970s, with languid, spongey, funky bass lines, gentle keyboards and guitar riffs, rippling flute and delicate falsetto singing, it’s an album to listen to, sipping cocktails while you relax. Highlights include Flower Moon, Really Wanna Be With You, Been So Long, Lovers’ Holiday, and Been So Long, but the entire release is a gentle swoon of tender smoothness, caressing the ears. Out on Dead Oceans.
