A 13th studio album in now 25 years by the Ohio/Nashville rock and soul duo of singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, here with a fuller, broader rock sound, keyboards and musical dimension in collaboration with fellow songwriter and producer Rick Nowels and others. With an overriding theme of optimism, there’s less of the raw, punchy sound of past releases, but still catchy toe-tappers, from the upbeat title track to The Night Before, or the thumping love song Babygirl, with additional writing and playing by Daniel Tashian and Scott Storch, while the slower Down To Nothing has a classic soul sound with the appearance of old friend Leon Michaels. Other highlights include the fuzz-guitar catchy, rich rock punch-the-air thrum of Man On A Mission, the bluesy A Little Too High, and the wonderfully tender southern country rock closer Neon Moon (“you can always find your way home by the light of the neon moon…) On they role Nashville flavoured rock soul release out on their excellent label Easy Eye Sound.
