Get the point? This is the scientific name for the swordfish, in full Xiphias gladius (from the Greek and Latin for sword), that extraordinary sea creature with the long, pointy bill, found in tropical and temperate parts of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans and often able to grow up to 3 metres long. But what of it in song?
Dipping briefly into the more obscure parts of an ocean of music, let us swim sharply to the popular retro French surf band Les Agamemnonz and their instrumental Xiphias, with a live and studio versions, the latter from their 2021 album Amateurs, out rather appropriately on Hi-Tide Recordings.
