Another selection made on the hoof, and today we're really pushing to the outer reaches of experimentation with the strange fusion of dance, psychedelia, prog-rock, jazz and electronica provided by London group from their second album, 2007's Pre-Emptive False Rapture. The band began in 2000 as a duo with Leo Smee on bass and percussion, and his brother Milo, an ever-expanding group then included vocalist Shingai Shoniwa from The Noisettes, and a mini orchestra of keyboards, saxophone, trumpet, bassoon, violin, guitars, alongside bass and drums, and various stage dancers. Known for their outlandish costumes of silvery garb, a look and sense of anarchy perhaps influenced by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, not to mention the occasional giant robot, their live shows were what really brought the music alive.
