A stylishly fun, funky, eccentric electronica, indie and hip-hop fusion by the South Korean collective known as “alternative K-pop”, heralding their new album, Gongbu, out on 19 May, via MOAH. Their album is centered around “the narrative of ‘Gongbu Korea,’ a fictional research institute where experimental technologies are used to observe and document human dreams and the unconscious.”
Balming Tiger members Jan’ Qui and San Yawn co-directed the video, which they explain “takes the form of a black comedy inspired by ‘Hamjinabi,’ a traditional Korean wedding custom. The story unfolds within the dream of sogumm, a test subject of ‘Gongbu Korea,’ visually expressing the album’s central theme of ‘dreams.’ At the same time, it introduces for the first time the key spaces and characters that mark the beginning of the album’s universe, expanding its musical narrative into a visual form.”
