With their first new music in almost four years, the influential and innovative Dublin quartet unleash an arresting, visceral hybrid of post-punk and noise rock, a stream of consciousness in dynamic, evolving sections, and with some echoes of The Fall, out now on Rough Trade.
Gilla Band are vocalist Dara Kiely, guitarist Alan Duggan Borges, bassist Daniel Fox (who separately has produced multiple innovative bands), and drummer Adam Faulkner. Keily describes Giraffe’s “first few sections represent what my general headspace is like. It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what I’m actually thinking. The outro on the other hand indirectly details a kind of confirmation that affection towards me does exist. While I appreciate it, I still find that hard to believe. ‘She chased me out the door with a hairbrush demanding that I would wear a suitable jacket.’ It’s a very Irish Mammy action. That amount of love is difficult for me to accept but it is a beautiful thing to have in life.”
Gilla Band begin an extensive US tour in October, and then Europe in early 2027. To explore and enjoy more by them, see also the other embedded links below.
Wine rings on the highchair
Today the world woke up without you
Burping the beta-bet
Little death
Soft teeth
Gappy little freak
Trench feet
Remember the heat
A twenty quid coupon for groceries
Cut it long
I want it on DVD
The eel that wants to squeal
A daft giraffe telling tall tales
He may be a paragraph behind, but he's Dara-graph ahead
Right on the lid and on the left-side of the bed
Donate half a kidney
Yesterday the world fell asleep without me
A tranquil pheasant
Don't say the C word you can't
Don't say the C word you can't
Don't say the C word you can't
Hear all your views on Sky Sports News
It's getting a bit graphic
Did you get my blood?
Write back
Hear all your views on Sky Sports News
It's getting a bit graphic
Did you get my ...? No
No perfect person like you
Sleeping in drains
Now McCartney is cool
That also means Wings
That caramelic smoke
That Gealt-ian bloke
That second oak
That useless can of Diet Coke
If you're gonna do it wrong do it right
That's the difference between shit and shite
If you're gonna do it wrong do it right
That's the difference between shit and shite
And who be this cheeky seventy something stupid sexy sense of self?
And shoe away the wizardry wonderfully wise wishing you with welcome wealth
Like saying like too much
Like saying like too much
Copying The Fall and getting caught
And who is this fucker?
A great listener, a looker
The world got there before you
Queuing at McDonald's tablets
No good habits
Absolutely loving it
The creature in your pupils
Teaching you shit skills
Teaching you shit skills, teaching you shit
The creature in your pupils
Talking to someone you don't know on pills at all
She chased me out the door
Chased me out the door
Chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
She chased me out the door with a hairbrush
Demanding that I would wear a suitable jacket
She chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
Chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
Chased me out the door
She chased me out the door
She chased me out the door with a hairbrush
Demanding that I would wear a suitable jacket
Chased me out the door with a hairbrush
Demanding that I would wear a suitable jacket
