With their first release together for 18 years and those Crazy days of the noughties, the potent US combination of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse return with soul-stirring vocals and innovative production, heralding the upcoming new album, Atlanta, out on 6 March via TenThousand Projects/Atlantic. It will be their third album following St. Elsewhere (2006) and The Odd Couple (2008) after which they pursued many other separate projects.
The song was inspired by Atlanta’s MARTA public train system, which the musicians’ recalled from their younger years there in the ’90s. “The song came from a childhood experience,” explains Green. “I had a middle school principal who, every Friday would tell me to go when I would get to school. Without fail. I was in 8th grade and I would leave school and ride the train alone from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The hook of the song is literally about being on the train. When you are in transit it’s like a motion picture passing you by… staring out the window of the MARTA train.” To explore and enjoy more by Gnarls Barkley, see also the other embedded links below.
Jumped off the porch and left the yard
Mama, you really must believe in God
Into the sky I stare, say the same ol' prayer
But Wayne is still out there somewhere
Look both ways before crossing, no talking to strangers
A shoestring from my sneakers held my house key
A minute goes by, now it's the past
I hope life is saving the best for last
When you breathe in the air you are that city
I even thought cemeteries looked pretty
Just watching and weighing all my options
It ain't that many things that we can be
Looks like motion pictures
Staring out the window of the MARTA train
On an adventure
Then back home again
Looks just like pictures
Staring out the window of the MARTA train
It's an adventure
Till I make it back home again
We are the wild ones, yes, we are
I can't believe his mom bought Mike a car
It makes me laugh when I look back at it
One dead, one in jail, one's a functioning addict
Live for the moment, here's my five on it
Standin' 'round freestyling to the beat
To say it's not where you're from is how you feel
Well, come on, Jesus, and take the wheel
'Cause everything's been said already
And both your parents are dead already
We're all coming with ya, so pass that liquor
The pictures are the only thing I get to keep
Life's like pictures
Staring out the window of the MARTA train
It's an adventure
Till I get back home again
Like pictures
Staring out the window of the MARTA train
It's an adventure
Gonna break my heart again
I just go, I just go, I just go, I just go
Oh, till the train stops running
I just go, I just go, I just go, I just go
Oh, until the train stops running
C'mon
