Influenced by Rage Against The Machine, a seething, menacing new track by the Manchester jazz-punk band, one they describe as “a call for revolution in the face of the oppressive,” with searing, combative lyrics by vocalist Harry Wilkinson and interweaving sax by Joseph Carroll, heralding their debut album Pain to Power, out on 12 September via Music For Nations. It a number that aims to capture the anger of “a generation unheard and their desire for change” and “a reminder to the listener that they are not what this culture teaches, they are in fact powerful beyond measure and when they believe in themselves, can make a difference.” Wilkinson quotes the revolutionary activist Fred Hampton’s line: “There will be no revolution ‘til the people believe that they are revolutionary.” To explore and enjoy more by Maruja, including other tracks from the album, see also the other embedded links below.
They taught me to feel shame when the devil is your friend
Indoctrinated pain
Generations cuffed by the ghosts of their past
Screaming out for change when the puppet show masks
A sickening parade
Years of the selfish, money, power, gain
Disregard for the helpless praying for a change
Man they're young, but they’re reckless
Never to be tamed
Running up the place if they’re ignoring what we’re saying
It’s a war against tradition, watch how we ascend
Challenge every culture, set heights without a limit
Evolution, sculpted by the hands of perseverance
Generations healing, the love had been oppressed
Something calling in my memory, I’m spiteful
Overthinking this insanity in cycles
Venom seething in my veins, I let it all out
Turn my pain into power, feel the fall out
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I said I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I said I’ll see you in the trenches
Leather lungs blackened and I’m choking
Spitting up the phlegm, are these mechanisms coping?
It’s a blood bath, hide, better run fast
Looking at each other like the enemy wears no mask
It’s the message that has always been unbreakable
Solidarity is never unattainable
Dedication, my fingertips bleed
My universe determined by my fucking self belief
When you look at me you’re staring at some success
The message, all of me, I’ll scream it till my death bed
No revolution if you don’t think you’re a revolutionary
The minute that we trust ourselves, becoming visionaries
When man just didn’t care, the Gods up and left
And threw us into chaos, never mind who had bled
I redeem us with this music, seeing more, saying less
Listening to speak with the intent to manifest
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I said I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
I said I’ll see you in the trenches
I’ll see you in the trenches
