A fabulous, agile, upbeat, energetic blend of jazz, afrobeat, soul and funk as the Leeds-formed London collective join forces with the legendary Malian singer-songwriter on this new single, both a celebration and a lament, out on Strut Records. The track is a call to honour ancestral wisdom while warning of the technological forces that erase, commodify and exploit cultural heritage for profit. The song is also deeply personal. Fatoumata’s lyrics explore motherhood, family, and the constant push and pull between love and freedom - between nurturing and letting go. “It’s about the freedom of our children,” she says. “It’s a message to the parents: you cannot control everything, you just have to let go.”
