The Notts duo of Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson and return with a fabulously furious, colourful, sweary and darkly acerbic number, with explosive, passionate rage by the Game of Thrones actress, spooky vocals by the indie/postpunk Black Country duo, and a video by brilliant British horror director Ben Wheatley, heralding the new album, The Demise Of Planet X, out on 16 January 2026 via Rough Trade Records. Known also for her roles in TV shows Severance and Wednesday, it’s Christie’s first foray into music. Big Special meanwhile had a Song of the Day here last week. Williamson describes the song as talking about slagging bands off and the joy and misery that causes him.
The upcoming album sees an expansion of Sleaford Mods’ style and further guests, featuring a rare appearance from former Life Without Buildings frontwoman Sue Tompkins, plus collaborations with Aldous Harding, soul singer Liam Bailey and grime MC Snowy, the latter two both hailing from band’s hometown of Nottingham. So I’m not punching down lads
I’m gunna style it out
I’m gunna make out I’m not doing it
But in reality, I am
The one thing they don’t tell ya
If ya get anywhere with an idea
Is the trail of cheesy bastards
That come straight after you, like here!
I’m not punching down, just gunna remove you from the equation
I’m gunna get rid quick like tattoos on Pete Davidson
It’s alright, I mean so fucking what
But what have you been sniffing
Ya fucking terrible, my God
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
25 thousand fathoms
I can see a phantom
I Like yobs are chugging quiet casters oil
in front of gob
Like they ruin all you tatty bastards
Trying to style it out with stuffed that’s robbed
Oi judo master
Climbing the stairs of fire
My guy’s edgy in a lumpy car
You got a flat fuckin tyre
Ya got awards for joyless faces cos ya fans like joyless shit,
You got poses while the tour photographer polishes the turd ya prick,
On ya head like a parrot,
You wear crap clothes like Jasper Carrot,
Ya not a large your a tedium,
Waist down, waist size feeding em
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
25 thousand fathoms
I can see a phantom
You know the good life’s better for me
You know the good life feels like it should when you’re free
You know the good life’s better for me
You know the good life feels like it should when you’re free
This real your fuckin fake shit
Like fuckin all the time
I smack my head
In a smelly bed
And I cry like a fuckin child
My fuckin heads gone, fuck it
Fucking bastard see
Like everybody else alive, I think there’s only this pain in me
Smashed against the rocks, the boats that hit skull island
Tori Kong and flames that spit to entice his rage in silence
I’m the maggot man with a severed hand
I’m Evil Kineval stunt cyclist
In a nowhere fuckin land
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
I can see a phantom
25 thousand fathoms
I can see a phantom
You know the good life’s better for me
You know the good life feels like it should when you’re free
You know the good life’s better for me
You know the good life feels like it should when you’re free
