Oddly mesmeric, viscerally candid yet also gently ironic, a catchy, crisp debut indie-pop single by the Los Angeles six-piece, newly signed to Rough Trade, with a song about overcompensation of grief and losing control of emotions, but also with a drily humorous performance video. The Sophs are: Ethan Ramon (vocals), Sam Yuh (keyboards), Austin Parker Jones (electric guitar), Seth Smades (acoustic guitar), Devin Russ (drums), and Cole Bobbitt (bass).
Rough Trade co-founders Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee explain that: “The Sophs arrived out of the great blue yonder. It’s rare that a demo that arrives in the post sets your heart racing and sends you off on a quest to track down its sender. But that’s what happened when we listened to the music sent to us by Ethan Ramon.”
Definitely then, one to watch out for. To explore and enjoy more by the band, keep an eye out also on the other embedded links below.
I am the boy from your good dreams
I am a boy in your good dreams
I’m not the way i used to be
I dream of people i have not seen bleed
So sweat yourself
Sweat yourself
’Cause god knows I won’t do it for you
So sweat yourself
Sweat yourself
’Cause God knows I won’t do it for you
Let’s just pretend we’re seventeen
before I had to fuck up everything
I saw you catwalk lemon street
You barely turned your head and said to me
Sweat yourself
Sweat yourself
’Cause god knows I won’t do it for you
Don’t try to kill my cool
There’s nothing left for you
You’ve earned a lonely night
