An updated indie-rock style as well as optimistic theme by the post-punk band from York fronted by the articulate presence of James Smith, heralding their new album, You’re Gonna Need a Little Music, out on 17 Jul via Island/Universal. Smith says about the new song: “New Beginnings is a bit of light to counteract the dark we led with. Sometimes we’ve already shed our old skin without even realising it’s happening. Celebrate the new, because you can’t go back.”
It follows the album’s first single, Redeemer. Previously Yard Act released 2024’s album Where’s My Utopia? and 2022’s debut LP The Overload following EPs. To explore and enjoy more by Yard Act, see also the other embedded links below.
Society has not been kind to my efforts
The celebration peaked quick
Then the jackals descended
I amended the dates and the names
On the record
But the guilty parties
Were all still offended
Now a bad wind beckons
I was due a reckoning
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breath deep and take it in
Low brow TV to help me sleep
For my efforts
Celebrities speak thick
If I tried I could be offended
Reprimanded the things that
They say and do, for the record
Suggestive, remain open ended
Now a bad wind beckons
I was due a reckoning
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breath deep and take it in
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breath deep and take it in
You've got to get yourself a new whip
Pack your bags and take a trip
The only nav we'll ever need
Lead by the magnet in your lips
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breath deep and take it in
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breath deep and take it in
You take it, you take it, you take it, you take it
You take it, you take it, you take take take it in
Purge yourself of sin
Resist the urge to grin
Spend your winnings
On new Beginnings
Breathe deeper, breathe deeper
