As ever, released suddenly without fanfare or any publicity, the prolific experimental soul, jazz, gospel, funk, psychedelia and disco collective of Cleo Sol, Info (aka Dean Josiah Cover) and co, including here old friends Jack Peñate, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, return with another classy, eclectic, stylish, mysterious release. Orchestral arranger and cellist Rosie Danvers and bassist Richard Pryce are also credited here alongside the collective. It’s now already their 13th LP since 2019, alongside two EPs, this a slow, shimmering, cinematic release, as well as one that harks back to thumping 60s psychedelia and sparkling 70s soul and funk grooves with a generally defiant, upbeat, positive message for dark times. The title track rejects the attitude of a narcissist (“Living in your head cause the rent is cheap / And you count your problems before you go to sleep / Wake up every morning, thoughts are on repeat / Saying "why is everybody so obsessed with me?") Other standouts include opener, God, Protect Me From My Enemies, then Love Does Not Equal Pain, Create Your Prophecy, Don’t Worry What You Can’t Control, and closer Puppet.
