When I make playlists for Song Bar, I usually include audience favourites and songs that reflect the Bar's overall tastes. But not this time. These are my favourites. If I'm going to be alone, I'm going to do exactly what I want. And I'm going to throw a party for myself and keep the writing brief because I want to return to my solitude.
The Chisel sets the mood with Bloodsucker. He's not in the mood to converse. I love the directness.
Joan Armatrading's Me Myself I is the anthem for those who like being sociable once a week. It's such a happy song.
Also enjoying A Moment to Myself is Macy Gray. She's found "the beauty of me".
In Sound and Vision David Bowie's wants a place to retreat to where he can escape and wonder about the world.
New Order tell it like it is to Your Silent Face: "You've caught me at a bad time, so why don't you piss off." It's a beautiful moment.
Generation X saw Tokyo youth dancing in front of mirrors, eschewing partners for reflections. It inspired them to make the joyous noise of Dancing with Myself.
The Electric Connection hit the dancefloor as well but make it clear they only want you when they want you and they won't apologise for The Cry of the Lone Wolf.
Barbara Manning asks, Isn't Lonely Lovely? It is.
Marijata sing I Walk Alone. They play a long, meditative song that is perfect for happy meanders in the natural world.
After a break they didn't want to talk about, Altered Images say it succinctly: Leave Me Alone.
