Jim Ghedi
Dark, gripping, visceral folk by the Sheffield singer-songwriter, with a striking number based on an early 19th-century German poem about the fatal story of a child pleading for food, and, following last year’s acclaimed album, Wasteland, also out on Basin Rock, it heralds his upcoming soundtrack for the Hugh Jackman film, The Death of Robin Hood.
"I wanted to push the sound even more heavier, chaotic almost like capturing the sound of destruction, as things are collapsing around us,” adds Ghedi. The German poem is from 1806-1808, and was translated by Judith Piepe, giving it the title of The Procrastination Song , which a starving child pleads for food, but is and told to wait until it’s too late. The words resonated with Ghedi who saw an obvious underlined narrative of the oppressed being repeatedly ignored, unrecognised and left to starve: "The meaning is pretty explicit here with not a lot of room to shy away from it, the tragic world events which are currently taking place and the oppression of innocent people really connected to the sentiment of this traditional song. Seeing the symbolism of the mother or the guardian figure unwilling to recognise what was happening in front of them, the injustice and loss of life."
The track comes with a dark video shot in the Peak District by close collaborator and director Jordan Carroll: “Whilst we had a loose storyline to the film with regards to the folklore and history of coffin paths on the moors, specifically around Yorkshire, we really wanted to focus more on an aesthetic this time around. Playing with creative visuals to capture the energy of the track, and the texture of the landscape.”
As well as the new single, Jim Ghedi will release his first film soundtrack for A24’s thriller The Death of Robin Hood, after being approached by director Michael Sarnoski. A dark adaptation of the 17th-century folk-tale Robin Hood's Death, the film is out in June 2026 and stars Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård and more.

A young child to its mother ran
And then it started crying
“Mother, I’m hungry, mother dear
Give me bread or I’ll be dying.”
“Wait my child, wait my child
Tomorrow we’ll be ploughing.”
Now when the field it had been ploughed
The young child started crying
“Mother, I’m hungry, mother dear
Give me bread or I’ll be dying.”
“Wait my child, wait my child
Tomorrow we’ll be sowing.”
Now when the field it had been reaped
The young child started crying
“Mother, I’m hungry, mother dear
Give me bread or I’ll be dying.”
“Wait my child, wait my child
Tomorrow we’ll bе threshing.”
Now when the whеat it had been threshed
The young child started crying
“Mother, I’m hungry, mother dear
Give me bread or I’ll be dying.”
“Wait my child, wait my child
Tomorrow we’ll be grinding.”
Now when the wheat it had been ground
The young child started crying
“Mother, I’m hungry, mother dear
Give me bread or I’ll be dying.”
“Wait my child, wait my child
Tomorrow we’ll be baking.”
Now when the bread was warm in the oven
The child lay dead in its coffin.
