A striking, dynamic collaboration between Norwegian experimental pop sensation Aurora and Tom Rowlands, one of half of Chemical Brothers, with a sensual, otherworldly energetic fusion of mystical, sensual ambience, and block-rocking dance beats. After a short intro, the title track is a quiet, intimate interweaving of restrained electronica as Aurora’s voice repeats the phrase and builds to soaring notes. A Boy Like You rises in excitement, a sensual, half-whispered song of seduction and oddball sounds. Ring The Alarm goes full Chemical dance beats and stuttering fast notes, with Aurora unleashing unfettered ululations. The eccentric, seductive , mystical feel of Have you Seen Me Dance Alone has a smoky intro line: “Open up your mind, let your body see, there’s no one in the world but me,” alongside eclectic syncopated squiggles and beats. Another catchy highlight, Somewhere Else, has Aurora singing a simple repeated “da-da” refrain over wooshing, wobble bed of synths and dance beats. The excellent I Drink The Light sees Aurora delivering a Bjork-like vocal over further classic Chemical Brothers sound: “I wanted to touch what I couldn't / I wanted to feel what I shouldn't feel / I wanted to taste the whole world from my palm.” On the slower, more contemplative Wavelengths, she quietly reflects how: “Once I was a river with the wisdom of a child.” More mesmeric oddities follow, not least the manic, breathless then panting dance closer In A Minute which addresses the impending sunrise. Like a truly mood-undulating clubbing experience, mesmeric combination of beats and vocal repetition, with Aurora’s unique presence and songwriting style particularly making this potent, sensual, unusual, eccentric and fun. Out on Fontana/Capitol Records.
