After February’s politically themed protest EP Days of Ash, another surprise single and EP, Easter Lily, by the veteran Irish rock band, seasonally themed and reflecting the band’s beliefs, with a classic sound harking back to the past, guitar and synths, and a number described as a devotional song, a celebration of new life, rebirth and resurrection. The new six-song EP, Easter Lily, is timed to Easter and includes a song featuring old friend and production collaborator Brian Eno.
The rest of the EP includes Song for Hal, is a COVID-19 lockdown lament, with The Edge on lead vocals, written for the band’s friend, the music-maker, Hal Willner, who would have turned 70 on Easter Monday and passed away almost 6 years ago to the day. In a Life celebrates friendship. Scars is a song of encouragement and acceptance. Resurrection Song is about pilgrimage, a road trip into the unknown with a lover or friend COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?) is a lullaby for parents of children caught up in war, featuring a soundscape by Brian Eno.
February’s politically charged Days of Ash was timed to Ash Wednesday and included previous Song of the Day American Obituary, inspired by the death of Renée Nicole Macklin Good at the hands of ICE agents in Minneapolis.

And I only have one song to bring
For a siren lost at sea
If she needs a song defying gravity
I have one more left in me
A song of devotion
As cold as the ocean
On such a day, such a day as this
On such a day, such a day
Something in me died
But I was no longer afraid
Easter parade

You speak to the part of me that cannot speak
I can't see you but I know you're there
I will always worship what I cannot keep
And not every song will be a prayer
On such a day, such a day as this
On such a day, such a day
Something in me died
But I was no longer afraid
Easter parade
