The prolific British experimental electronica artist, Christopher Stephen Clark, who works on film and games music as well as albums, returns with a collection capturing the sprit of making music on old samplers and equipment, whipping up the rising, whooshing wave and piano styles of 90s dance music as well as more intricate sounds. Much of the work was done on an older 1990s synth model, the Virus, Clark enjoying the relatively clunky nature of the programmes and now vintage sounds. Following his 2023 collaboration with Thom York on the album Sus Dog, and other projects since, this is very much him working on his own in a raw and energetic way. Spacey, airy sounds mix with chirps, ripples and beeps and bells and blasts of larger sound. It’s all niche, fun and strange, a real synth-head’s dream. Highlights include the charming ripples of Infinite Roller, the rave and drum’n’bass energy of Blowtorch Thimble, the old-school simplicity into interweaving complexity of Inpatient’s Day Out who Who Booed The Goose, and perhaps most interesting, Globecore Flats, which mixes beats with a unusual retuned piano with different intervals – 18 notes to the octave – delightfully odd. Out on Throttle Records.
