A fourth album, here full of delicious uplifting, dreamily chic, psychedelic soul-pop by the French musician Melody Prochet, with bright, upbeat, optimistic numbers and a title lifted from a quote by the acclaimed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, about achieving equilibrium: “You must see with eyes unclouded by hate. See the good in that which is evil, and the evil in that which is good. Pledge yourself to neither side.” With the title track as an instrumental, and all 12 clocking in at 29 minutes, it’s an album very much about the consistent and nostalgic feel of sound - retro, classic sounds guitar, sometimes with a sitar effect sheen, brilliant, clean syncopated drumming, soaring, romantic strings, and Melody’s breathy, high, dreamy voice, all produced by a stellar band: Josefin Runsteen on strings with a touch of the avant-garde; Dina Ögon’s Daniel Ögen on guitar and Love Orsan on bass who Melody describes as “masters of the velvet groove”; British drummer Malcolm Catto from The Heliocentrics; and frequent collaborator Reine Fiske who also brings more to guitar parts. Standouts include opener The House That Doesn’t Exist, the psych soul of In The Stars, the classic syncopated groove and sitar sound of Eyes Closed, and perhaps the best comes last - Daisy with shimmering guitars and a beautiful, shifting melody also featuring guest Leon Michels aka El Michels Affair. A nostalgic summery feel to very much lift the winter blues. Out Domino Records.
