A beautiful, reflective number by the alternative folk-rock band from Melbourne fronted by Sam Bentley, heralding their seventh studio album If You Go There, I Hope You Find It, out on 23 January via Nettwerk Music Group. The album title is a phrase the band’s co-founder and keyboard player Christina Lacy wrote on a fogged-up bus window one morning, and it became a quiet mission statement — a reflection on distance, devotion and the quiet hope that the people you love will find what they’re looking for, even if you can’t follow them where they go. Musically, it’s the five band members again — recorded live in the room, minimal overdubs, leaning into imperfection. Mid-morning and I pour myself out
On to the hot bricks, bad news and a burning sun
I had a dream we hallelujah'd the country all night
Only to find that there was more to be done
Everywhere I look I see imbalance of the scales
And I try to throw a little more good in the right
I'm just waiting for a change of the breeze
And the way that I think
And the way that I lie to myself
With the change of the wind
I could move through the state I'm in
With the change of the door
Maybe I could open myself better than before
With the change of the line
I could turn myself around without no reason or rhyme
Cause I can't change it all
But I can change my mind
Tell me how good can the good really be
If I hang my hat under the broadest tree
There are things that couldn't ever get in
Like the light, the dark, the truth and the reality
And I know it's easy from a room with all the windows
And a good view of the fire on the other side
Tell me how long can I last through the season
Before I challenge my reason
For watching it all go by
With the change of the wind
I could move through the state I'm in
With the change of the talk
Maybe I won't say things better than I walk
With the change of the time
Yeah I want to know the truth in everything that I find
Cause I can't change it all
But I can change my mind
I can change my mind
With the change of the talk
With the change of the time
With the change of the line
Yeah I can't change it all
But I can change my mind
